A flight attendant has shared her essential hacks for staying in hotels.
Charlotte Goodliffe, 21, from Ruislip in the U.K., has been working in the skies for the past two years and has picked up some indispensable tips and tricks for overseas travel.
Her advice incorporates: what to do when you forget a power adapter, utilizing hotel shower caps for hygiene purposes, how to keep your hotel curtains closed for a good night’s sleep, a door lock hack for extra security, how to remember your personal belongings and how to save money on food.
In a video that has amassed more than 350,000 views, Goodliffe has impressed other globe-trotters with her helpful hacks.
Goodliffe told Newsweek: “The hotel hacks in the video are important because I spend more time in hotels than I do at home and they have just become common things I do to make those stays as clean and comfortable like home as I can.”
Goodliffe decided that a job as a flight attendant would be perfect, allowing her to travel the world without spending long extended periods away from her family.
She decided to apply for a job with an airline on a whim after catching the travel bug during a trip to Thailand. Now her favorite destinations are Cape Town, South Africa and New York City.
Her first tip involves what to do if you forget a power adapter.
She explained: “If I forget to bring a plug adapter for the country I’m in, I plug the USB into the back of the TV to charge my phone. This has been a life saver a few times now.”
Some viewers suggested in the comments that hotel receptions usually have spares or chargers guests have left behind.
Next, Goodliffe suggests nifty ways to use showercaps for cleanliness. The first is to place your shoes in one before putting them in your case, so they don’t get your clothes dirty. The second, is to put one around the TV remote to protect yourself from germs.
The cabin crew member’s next hack involves getting an undisturbed night’s sleep.
She shared on TikTok: “You know that annoying tiny bit of light that shines through the curtains, if they don’t quite meet in the middle?
“Use a hanger with clips to clip the curtains together so that beam of light doesn’t wake you up in the morning.”
Guests can also utilize hangers to ensure maximum security as they sleep, Goodliffe advised.
She suggested Googling “hanger door trick,” which involves threading the hook of one hanger through the latch on the door and placing a second hanger over the door handle, before connecting the two to make a strong lock.
To ensure you do not forget important documents such as your passport and ID, the flight attendant shared an ingenious method.
She said: “I use hotel safes for my passport, ID etc, and so I don’t forget to take them out when I leave, I also leave one of my work shoes in there.”
The final hack is to invest in a heated lunchbox so you can eat hot food in your room and save time, money and effort.
