The NuWray Hotel Accepting Reservations for August 2024 and Beyond – WKYK

1 minute, 43 seconds Read

The much anticipated restoration of The NuWray Hotel is entering its final stages.  The NuWray Hotel is now accepting room reservations in the main hotel for August 2024 dates and beyond. Reservations can be made online directly through the NuWray website — www.nuwray.com — or by calling (828) 678-7070 or emailing [email protected]. The newly restored hotel has 22 rooms with ensuite bathrooms across three floors, each with a Queen or King bed and accommodating up to 2 people. Two first floor rooms are handicap accessible, including large, zero-entry showers. In the adjacent Carriage House building, there are 4 double rooms on the second floor that can each accommodate up to 4 people, and they are kid- and pet-friendly as well as suitable for extended stays.

Each room in the main hotel is uniquely decorated and named in order to highlight regional history and culture. Some rooms are named for famous visitors to the NuWray, such as author Thomas Wolfe and singer Elvis, while others are named for important Burnsville natives, including Lesley Riddle, an early influence on country music; Daniel Boone VI, the prominent blacksmith; Selelia Griffith, a leader of the Civil Rights movement in Burnsville; and Lucy Morgan, the founder of the Penland School of Craft. Still other rooms are named for various industries and traditions that have helped sustain the region, including the Lumberjack, Miner, Railyard, and Moonshiner Rooms. Ceramic nameplates for each room were designed and handcrafted by local artist Joy Bennett, a 4th generation member of the Ray/Wray family who ran the hotel from the 1870s to the 1990s.

A Grand Opening celebration will be announced soon. Meanwhile, the NuWray will be posting job opportunities as they become available on their website: www.nuwray.com/jobs. A position for a Front of House/Restaurant Operations Manager has already been announced, and many more will follow in the coming months. You can learn more about the hotel on the website — www.nuwray.com — and follow progress and announcements on Facebook or Instagram: @nuwrayhotel.
