The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has come under fire after it was revealed that it is in talks to sell off a 60% stake in four of its hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Food and Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong.

According to SSNIT, the move to partner with a strategic investor aims to raise capital for investment in its hotels and to assist in their management.

SSNIT stated that Rock City Hotel Limited submitted the best and strongest technical and financial proposal among all the bids received.

The hotels in question include Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and the Trust Lodge Hotel.

Reacting to this development in a panel discussion on TV3’s ‘New Day’ programme, Bernard Mornah, former National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and convener of Arise Ghana, criticised the government of President Akufo-Addo for what he described as reckless decision-making.

“Incompetent management is the root cause of this situation. We should remove them from their positions. What is this practice of privatising everything state-owned? Ghana is becoming incapable of managing its own assets, so we hand them over to the private sector.

“If this continues, it won’t be long before we consider selling the presidency itself. President Akufo-Addo’s regime is the most reckless in history, so perhaps we should sell the presidency to the private sector to manage because that’s where the problem lies.

“If we look at leadership paralysis, President Akufo-Addo is the most paralyzed leader this world has ever evolved. That should call for the sale of the Presidency of this country so that we can get people who have the ability to come and take over. Clearly, these things don’t add up…,” Mr Mornah said.

Meanwhile, North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the impending sale of the hotels.
