The Glenwood Springs Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at around 8:05 Friday morning at the La Quinta Hotel in north Glenwood Springs, a news release from the fire department stated.

Additional information from dispatch confirmed smoke was emanating from a third-floor room, and evacuations were underway.

As fire crews arrived, they located and extinguished the fire within minutes, the release said, limiting the damage to two rooms.

Due to the heavy smoke, evacuations continued to ensure everyone was accounted for. Ventilation and overhaul efforts were carried out simultaneously, allowing occupants to return within the hour, the release stated.

Incident Commander Hostetler praised the team’s efforts stating, “Thanks to the quick and professional response of our firefighters, we were able to contain this fire to a single room and its contents. Their skill and dedication exemplify the highest standards of our profession, and I am proud to be a part of such a capable and committed team.”

The response team included one aerial, one engine, one ambulance, an investigation vehicle, and two command vehicles staffed by nine firefighters. The release stated the department extends their gratitude to the Garfield County Dispatch for their support and to the Glenwood Springs Police Department for their assistance during the incident.

The Glenwood Springs Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. It is believed to be accidental, the release said. No injuries were reported at this time.
