Hundreds of people marched through the streets of downtown San Francisco Wednesday in support of regional hotel workers and janitors who will soon enter contract negotiations in hopes of winning wage increases, better health care benefits and improved working conditions.

The boisterous crowd, out in force for May Day, the traditional celebration of workers’ rights at the start of the month, started at the 400 block of California Street and then moved along Montgomery Street to Market Street and via Geary Street past tony shops to Union Square, where they stopped for a rally before continuing to march in front of various hotels.
