ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Nob Hill property will be getting a makeover. Tuesday, Titan Development announced its purchase of the Hiway House Motel.
“We just had a vision to turn this into something that Nob Hill would appreciate,” said Josh Rogers, partner at Titan Development.
It’s been closed for more than a year, the Hiway House Hotel off Central in Nob Hill has brought in a lot of negative attention but after an explosion in 2019, squatters and a fire in 2023, the property is now under new ownership.
“It originally was a multi-family project because that’s been Titan’s bread and butter but when we got into the financials of the project it made much more sense as a hotel,” said Rogers.
Titan Development is well known in the metro area working on projects like the Journal Center Courtyard Marriott and the Highlands Springhill Suites across from Presbyterian but this will be a much different concept for the developer, tackling a boutique hotel.
“The Hiway House motel had it’s hey day in the 60’s and 70’s and we’re kinda just bringing back that idea to Nob Hill and this is main and main in Nob Hill you can’t get a better site,” said Rogers.
Hoping to add to the progress Nob Hill has already made.
“Starting with Happy Accidents and M’Tucci’s Bar Roma coming out of COVID and just really bringing life to the place we’ve seen so many new restaurants and new concepts and new retail shops open in Nob Hill since COVID really ended and that’s really exciting for the area,” said Rogers.
The vacant motel, originally built in 1959, will be demolished and a new boutique hotel will be built in its place. Plans include about 100 guest rooms, a rooftop bar and meeting spaces. The developer says it also plans to revitalize the motel’s original neon sign.
“I think everybody wants to see this project succeed, we’ve had tremendous feedback from the neighborhoods the businesses in Nob Hill everybody recognizes what a special opportunity this is and that’s why we’re doing it,” said Rogers.
Construction is expected to begin late next year.
