MYSTIC, CT — Construction of the Delamar Mystic Hotel is well underway. The hotel is slated to open on the grounds of the Mystic Seaport Museum in October, The Day of New London reported.
The luxury hotel developed by Greenwich Hospitality Group will have 31 rooms and suites that “will treat guests to unparalleled views of the Mystic River and Mystic Seaport,” according to the hotel’s website.
The hotel will be home to La Plage Restaurant, which will seat up to 90 guests indoors. Delamar will also have a 2,600-square-foot ballroom with “a waterfront event lawn [that] will serve as the perfect venue for hosting weddings, corporate events, private parties, and other celebrations.”
It will be the sixth Delamar location in the state with others in Greenwich, Southport, and West Hartford, with Delamar Westport scheduled to open this year.
The site, at 105 Greenmanville Ave., is the former home of Latitude 41 restaurant, which closed last year.
Latitude 41 restaurant, which formerly occupied the site, closed after 12 years in business.
The restaurant’s owners said “COVID, the economy, and prior notices that the property was scheduled for demolition in 2021 had taken a negative toll on the restaurant.”
The hotel’s path to development has been a long time in the making. The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission narrowly approved plans to demolish Latitude 41 and construct the hotel in 2020. Residents had expressed concerns about traffic and the height of the building.
